The unique fisheries of Crystal River allow us to catch Gag Grouper in less than 20 feet of water. October through December is the peak season for these fish, but it's possible to catch them all year. We typically use three different techniques for catching the gags inshore. Bottom fishing with bait, trolling shallow diving plugs and casting plugs to fish. This is an exciting experience with frequent intense strikes.
Due to the fact that these grouper always try and use structure to break the angler off strong tackle is a must to give the angler a chance to land these fish.
On grouper trips we spend most of the day targeting grouper and if we get our limit then we will usually go target another inshore species of the customers choosing.
